sound sleep without snoring

Medication and Herbal Remedies for Snoring

If one has tried all options in the area of changing sleep habits or ways of living without any result, the typical next move would be to address the disorder with medication. One might come to the conclusion that it's not possible to find an effective homeopathic remedy, in which case a tendency toward orthodox medicine would be indicated. However, truth be told, many medications appear to only be effective in cases of temporary snoring or swollen mucous membranes of the nose. Some of those drugs are available over-the-counter. The main cause for the nightly sleep-interrupter might lie in the weakening of jaw and pharynx musculature, which could be a physical problem manageable by further snore therapies.

The following is a selection of anti-snoring medications:

  • Anti-snoring mousse (e.g. Silence), to be sprayed on the pharynx in order to moisturize the tissue and instantly increase muscular tension. Subsequently, it can relieve snoring due to reduced vibrations.

  • There are some nasal sprays and drops available, such as Asonor, which are based on a similar principle as above, i.e. moisturizing and toning of muscle tissue.

  • The enzyme supplement Snore-free is supposed to reduce the swelling of the mucous membranes. If the diagnosis happens to be swollen pharynx and nasal mucous membranes, as it occurs especially during allergies and colds, this might have an effect on snoring.

  • A new drug, which is a solution injected by syringe, creates scarring in the pharynx area through obliteration. Those scars result in a hardening and stabilization of the soft palate and thereby facilitate breathing.
